Bodegas El Seque´ is a great place to find a quiet and indulging experience during hot summer days in Alicante. If you are looking for striking scenery of mountain ranges and endless vineyards, then this is the place for you. It is located in the outskirts of the picturesque village of Pinoso, 600 mts above sea level and 63 km west from Alicante towards Jumilla.

The Bodegas are within the shell of a rustic building. They offer a chic and contemporary tasting room and tours of their high tech plant. The old building was refurbished in 2006 to create bright spacious and an inviting place, where the original features were incorporated into the design to achieve an ample space with a contemporary feel. It is surrounded by 40 hectares of Monastrell. El Seque´ has been a winery well before its acquisition by Spanish Wine makers Agapito Rico and Juan Carlos López.

Look out for the Art exhibitions and outdoor concerts that take place during the year. The cave, where the wines rest, is used as a venue to display the artwork of Spanish contemporary artists. Perhaps you may be able to visit one of their candlelight concerts at their pool´s gardens.

El Seque´ produces three wines that will make your trip even more enchanting. My favourite is “El Seque”. This deep cherry coloured, full bodied wine, is made of 100% handpicked Monastrell “Crianza”. It has been ageing for 12 months, The Bodega has eco-friendly ethos with no pesticides or additives, conserving a great respect for the culture of wine making in Pinoso. This wine is powerful on the mouth, but yet it has a delicate scent with a mix of earthy and mature fruit flavours. It can be paired with almost any type of food, but since it has a strong Mediterranean feel, why not discovery it with a traditional game paella to get a true flavour and experience of Alicante Wines.
